Neighborhood

This New Orleans neighborhood took off in 1830 when the Crescent City was a bustling steamboat port. Home to one of the country’s largest populations of free people of color before the Civil War, the neighborhood has a proud history. Come discover it.

The community, formerly known as Faubourg Franklin, got its current name during a yellow fever epidemic in 1867 when the parish priest turned to Saint Roch, the patron of good health, to protect the community. The priest promised Saint Roch if no one in the parish died from yellow jack, he would build a chapel in his honor. As it turned out, no one from the Holy Trinity parish perished – in that epidemic or the one that followed in 1878, so the priest built a chapel as a shrine to St. Roch as well as a cemetery. You can still visit both today.

Since Hurricane Katrina, St. Roch has become a burgeoning artistic community with a number of unique art galleries and hip restaurants. At the center of all the excitement is St. Roch Market at 2381 St. Claude, a former fish market that is now a “Southern Food Hall” (Translation: The most awesome food court you’ll ever experience). We love the crepes from the Dirty Dishes stall. Good luck choosing between the “Who Dat” with praline sauce and the "Munch" made with pulled pork, mac and cheese and barbecue sauce.

The Art Garage, housed in a renovated auto body shop at 2231 St. Claude, is also a must-experience. On the third Saturday of every month, they host performance art, live graffiti and art exhibits of all kinds. And to get a real feel for the area, you might want to stop by Faubourg Wines at 2805 St. Claude Avenue. Owner Catherine Markel likes to say, “We are like the neighborhood water cooler, where people gather to discuss the events of the day — only with wine.”

By streetcar/Bus: The number 80 bus in combination with the RTA Uptown-Riverfront streetcar will get you downtown
Both the number 8 bus is just 2 blocks away on St. Claude and will get you to the French Quarter in 7 minutes!

Driving
We are just a 5 minute drive from the French Quarter and even closer to Frenchmen Street!
Uber/Lyft will cost $5-7!!

Notes

Normal check-in time is 4pm on the arrival date. For check-in's from 12:30pm - 4:00pm, it's an extra $50 to have an extra cleaner assist with servicing the property. Check-in before 12:30pm would require booking the previous night at a much discounted rate. Contact host for details.

House Rules

1. *We are legally limited to the posted maximum occupancy by local law. Additional guests occupying the space will be charged $100 per person per night.*
2. Important: For non-Airbnb guests only - Our properties are protected by AutoHost- a globally recognized trust and safety company that allows hosts and guests to confidently transact. By booking, you agree to be contacted directly by AutoHost to complete your booking validation, which includes ID verification and deposit collection. The deposit amount ranges from $100 - $500 and is for NON-Airbnb guests only. Airbnb guests do NOT have to complete AutoHost verification.
3. The booking guest must send a copy of a government issued ID upon booking.
4. Quiet hours 10PM - 8AM. Please remain cognizant and respectful of our neighbors.
5. While early check-in / late checkout may be available for a small extra fee (used to cover the cost of an additional cleaner) this must be arranged ahead of time. Unauthorized Late checkouts are a $100 charge for each hour after 11am - a 15 minute grace period is given and our cleaners have the right to enter the property and begin cleaning if they arrive and you are still present. If you are not at the property, our cleaners will set your items outside for you to collect. If the space you’re renting is for multiple units, the fee will be $100/hour per unit.
6. Smoking in the unit will result in a $500 Deodorization Fee.
7. Unregistered guests and parties are prohibited by local laws and ILLEGAL. Our occupancy limits are set by local ordinance. Any guest found to have had a party will be charged a $1,500 fee for non-compliance with local laws. Exterior cameras with active recording is present at the property to verify these laws/house rules are not broken.
8. Please do not hang or attach anything to the walls with push pins, tape, etc. or other painted surfaces.
9. Please use our black makeup towels to remove makeup to avoid damaging white linens/towels.
10. Guests are provided 2 keys. 1 Key must be left in the lockbox at all times in case your group gets separated, loses a key, or you lock yourself out. Lost keys will result in a charge of $150 to re-key the locks.
11. One key in the lockbox is attached to a BookNOLA keychain. There will be a $25 charge if the keychain is missing.
12. If the space is left excessively dirty $50 will be charged for each additional hour of cleaning required. Removal of bodily fluids will result in a charge of $150. Glitter cleanup will result in a charge of $100.
13. Unauthorized pets will result in an additional $250 deep cleaning cleaning fee and immediate request to leave. Pet Boarding recommendations available upon request. Both the owner and staff have pet allergies. If traveling with pets please inquire about our pet friendly units.
14. Unfortunately, we cannot accept bookings from “Locals” at this time. Locals is meant to include anyone residing within 60 miles of New Orleans.
15. While we cannot receive any mail or packages to the space we will assist with getting packages shipped to New Orleans if needed.
16. Please do not ship packages to yourself as we are not held responsible for them. We will not be responsible for them in the event they get lost, and will not be responsible for returning them if they are found after your departure.
17. Pack n' Plays and high chairs are available upon request. There is limited availability. Please inquire via message if you would like to reserve one.
