This New Orleans neighborhood took off in 1830 when the Crescent City was a bustling steamboat port. Home to one of the country’s largest populations of free people of color before the Civil War, the neighborhood has a proud history. Come discover it.

The community, formerly known as Faubourg Franklin, got its current name during a yellow fever epidemic in 1867 when the parish priest turned to Saint Roch, the patron of good health, to protect the community. The priest promised Saint Roch if no one in the parish died from yellow jack, he would build a chapel in his honor. As it turned out, no one from the Holy Trinity parish perished – in that epidemic or the one that followed in 1878, so the priest built a chapel as a shrine to St. Roch as well as a cemetery. You can still visit both today.

Since Hurricane Katrina, St. Roch has become a burgeoning artistic community with a number of unique art galleries and hip restaurants. At the center of all the excitement is St. Roch Market at 2381 St. Claude, a former fish market that is now a “Southern Food Hall” (Translation: The most awesome food court you’ll ever experience). We love the crepes from the Dirty Dishes stall. Good luck choosing between the “Who Dat” with praline sauce and the "Munch" made with pulled pork, mac and cheese and barbecue sauce.

The Art Garage, housed in a renovated auto body shop at 2231 St. Claude, is also a must-experience. On the third Saturday of every month, they host performance art, live graffiti and art exhibits of all kinds. And to get a real feel for the area, you might want to stop by Faubourg Wines at 2805 St. Claude Avenue. Owner Catherine Markel likes to say, “We are like the neighborhood water cooler, where people gather to discuss the events of the day — only with wine.”

Guests will have exclusive and uninterrupted access to the entirety of the space including laundry, living room, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.

Experience true comfort and relaxation in our recently renovated vacation rental. Perfect location, felt extremely clean and safe, and the host went above and beyond with communication and information! 10/10 would stay here again!

Ana (review from Airbnb)
It was a great place to stay. I felt safe and it was very comfortable.

Crystal (review from Airbnb)
This is by far our favorite NoLa Air BNB - easy parking right by the door, super clean, and well stocked. Yes, it’s literally in 9th ward but the VIBE of the place is amazing… it’s so New Orleans & this will be our go-to NoLa spot moving forward!!!

Cary (review from Airbnb)
This place was close to everything and really cute. The parking spot was a major plus. Inside felt very light and airy. Super clean. Overall a really great stay.

Stefan (review from Airbnb)
Definitely one of the best airbnb experiences we have had. Comfortable KING bed, kitchen complete with tea, coffee and washer and dryer, laundry soap included. Easy in and out with keypad lock and another much appreciated fact, private driveway/parking. Good wifi for work and Roku TVs for a quick Disney+ movie made staying enjoyable too. All in all can highly recommend for anyone coming to NOLA with a car, close enough to French quarter and no parking headaches!

Alice (review from Airbnb)
The quality of this airbnb is high grade. So clean and beautifully set up and the bed is particularly comfortable. This comes from two people who both sleep poorly so we need a nice bed, this really did not disappoint we slept so well. It's such a quiet neighbourhood too.
The location is convenient, you can walk down through Marigny to Frenchmen Street (the better street for jazz imo) and there are some great neighbourhood spots close by, including a very friendly breakfast joint called Ruby Slipper - great food and excellent service.
My one call out is that the neighbourhood is known quite widely as a high crime neighbourhood, we were told by our Uber drive when dropping us off. At first this bothered us, but after getting reassurance from the owner of the airbnb who lives in the area, we felt a lot more safe. We did however still get Ubers everywhere which is very expensive to do (but Ubers are recommended everywhere at night in the dark, in all neighbourhoods)

Julia (review from Airbnb)
It was a lovely place in a good location - great value, very responsive to my needs. Will book again next time I’m in town if it’s available. Thanks!

Rachel (review from Airbnb)
Beautiful house, very homey

Kody (review from Airbnb)
I enjoyed staying at Mike's place. At first I was skeptical because of another reviewer's comments, but it was a pleasant stay. Beautiful, beautiful home. It felt so peaceful and relaxing. I stayed there to get away and relax and the mission was accomplished. The place was clean and spotless. If you are looking for a quiet getaway or even fun, I would recommend Mike's place. They were gracious host and communicated promptly. Also, the location is ideal.

John (review from Airbnb)
After booking i found several articles about high crime in this neighborhood. I think the description of "vibrant" is misleading. Lots of graffiti, broken glass dark streets, run down houses. I was surprised to be asked to submit my drivers license, credit card and selfie AGAIN on the day of arrival, to get access to the entry code.Air bnb already has this, why submit this info again? Makes me worry about ID theft. Furthermore they then charged me a $2 fee for processing this info after already having paid in full for the stay several weeks before. I received texts from 3 different people during the stay as they apparently co manage the place. Overall the place was fine and i appreciated the off street parking, but i dont recommend the neighborhood. Research St Roche crime b4 booking.

Alicia (review from Airbnb)
The place itself was well kept for, true to description and very comfortable with the New Orleans feel and aesthetic. We walked a solid 28 miles in four days starting from the bnb and would always Uber back after dark. It definitely is a good ten minutes off the beaten path and is wise to use a car if you’ve been out partyin’. It is a super quiet residential street. Our bed was incredibly comfortable. Lots of good vacay sleep. The ownership checked in on us sufficiently and had great suggestions, and we have zero complaints. We’ll be back! Thank you!

Candy (review from Airbnb)
We would stay again! The bed was so comfy after a day of walking. The restaurant recommendations in the guest book were perfect for us. Thanks for the coffee set up!

Susan (review from Airbnb)
I really enjoyed this place. It was super clean and has an extremely comfortable bed and linens. I stayed in this neighborhood before and it is perfect walking distance. Everything is literally within a mile and a half. The only thing I would suggest is a small table in chairs outside to have a place to sit outdoors. This was my fault, I assumed by the pics not the description that it had a place outside to sit, most places have some kind of courtyard. Like I said that was my fault for assuming. I would definitely stay here again!! The driveway was a bonus too and the neighbors were pleasant and friendly. We had a fantastic trip with perfect weather!!!

Dougan (review from Airbnb)

Kevin Michael (review from Airbnb)
Great stay, lovely place, great proximity to restaurants on Frenchman Street and the Quarter. Several hidden neighborhood restaurants and bars make the place a hidden gem for those of us who prefer short walks (15 minutes or less) over driving to get out and about.

Thank you for the amazing review Kevin. We're so glad you had the chance to check out the local restaurants nearby! We'd love to host you again for your next visit to New Orleans!

Stephen (review from Airbnb)
this home was everything expected and more, and made for a wonderful birthday celebration for my girlfriend on the new year. Instructions were fairly laid out. This was very clean and there were some wonderful suggestions for groceries and restaurants. we appreciated the added touches of color and safety to the house!

Stephen, so glad you enjoyed our home and NOLA!

Loren (review from Airbnb)
When we pulled up I was a little nervous as the neighborhood seemed a little sketchy, however this was our first time to New Orleans and quickly saw this was commonplace. We walked everywhere and felt safe and comfortable. Morrows was a great dinner choice!! Home is exactly as shown/depicted and described and we were very pleased with our stay! Definitely will come back!

Kate (review from Airbnb)
Awesome stay in St. Roch, close to Bywater, Marigny, and the French Quarter. The house was cozy and perfect for weathering the deep freeze that came through during our visit. The host was very responsive and helpful when we had questions about the property during the winter weather event. We would absolutely book again! Thanks for everything!

Cathy (review from Airbnb)
Best Airbnb experience, extremely organized. The online manual has all information and was easy to reference throughout. Very fast responses from all co hosts and were patient when we had questions. Absolutely spotless, so many small details and thoughtful touches, extra blankets, everything to make the stay perfect. Small private driveway, no issues getting in/out. Keypad access makes check in easy. Truly the best stay I can recall ever, definitely staying again.

Matt (review from Airbnb)

Everything was marvelous ✨

John (review from Airbnb)
Very close to lots of great attractions. Quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors. We walked to the French quarter one day (about a mile) and the rest of the time rented the “blue bikes”, there was a bike kiosk about 2 blocks away. The house is cute and has all the essentials and nothing you don’t need. For being so close to all the cool places, the value is really high.

Robert (review from Airbnb)
it was a nice little house just as the pictures show
